A temporary pedestrian bridge will be built across Macquarie St to facilitate the safe movement of participants for the Sydney Marathon event on the weekend of 30-31 August.

Macquarie St will be closed between Bridge St and Bent St to allow for the installation and then removal of the temporary bridge. Once installed, the bridge will have a height clearance of 4.6 metres.

Overnight full and/or lane closures will be in place at the following times:

• Fri 22 Aug: Full closure from 11pm until 7am (Sat 23 Aug)
• Sat 23 Aug: Full closure from 11pm until 7am (Sun 24 Aug)

RAAF Richmond Airshow on Saturday and Sunday. Gates will open at 9am, with flying displays to be conducted from 11am to 4pm each day.

With up to 40,000 attendees expected each day over the weekend, heavy traffic is expected in Clarendon and surrounding suburbs approaching the airbase.

Motorists should allow extra travel time on roads including Hawkesbury Valley Way, Blacktown Rd, The Northern Rd and Richmond Rd.

Limited paid-parking will be available at Hawkesbury Showground (pre-purchased ticket required). Access to showground parking will be via Blacktown Rd only not Hawkesbury Valley Way due to the partial closure of Racecourse Rd for the event.

• Racecourse Rd will be closed at Hawkesbury Valley Way and the Rail line crossing from 6am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday for the safety of crowds getting to and from the event via the train station.
• Sections of Hobart St and Percival St surrounding the airbase will also be closed between 6.30am and 5pm each day.

Special event clearway parking restrictions will be in effect on Hawkesbury Valley Way, Dight St and Hobart St surrounding the airbase from 7am to 6pm each day.

The Sydney Marathon event is taking place over two days this year, Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 August.

On Saturday the 5km Mini Marathon will see 10,000 participants run through the Sydney CBD and The Domain.

Roads will be closed and clearways will be in effect between 2am and 10am.

Road closures:

• 2am – 10am: Macquarie St between Bridge St and Bent St, and southbound from Albert St to Bridge St.
• 4am – 10am: Macquarie St between the Sydney Opera House roundabout and Bridge St, Albert St, and Art Gallery Rd and Mrs Macquaries Rd in the Royal Botanic Garden & The Domain.
• 5am – 10am: Macquarie St and College St from Bent St to Park St, and the Cahill Expressway on and off ramp to Macquarie St will close. The Cycleway on College St between Park St and Prince Albert Rd will also close from 5am to 10am.
• No access to Macquarie St from the Cahill Expressway, motorists should use the Grosvenor St or York St off ramps from the Harbour Bridge instead.
• 6.30am – 9.30am: St Mary’s Rd, Hospital Rd and Shakespeare Place. Two-way access maintained to Hospital Rd via Shakespeare Place.

Major roads in North Sydney, the Sydney CBD, Pyrmont, Darlinghurst, Moore Park, Centennial Park and Kingsford will be closed between 2am and 4pm for Sydney Marathon 42km and 10km events on Sunday. 45,000 participants are expected to take part across the two courses with 35,000 taking part in the marathon alone.

Travel across the city will be limited with lengthy detours in place. Sydneysiders are urged to avoid non-essential travel where possible or allow plenty of extra travel time and expect trips to take longer than usual.

Key closure times by suburb area

• North Sydney closures between 2am and 12pm including sections of Miller St, Pacific Hwy.
• Sydney Harbour Bridge and Western Distributor closed 3am to 11am. Detour via Harbour Tunnel. Motorists from the Anzac Bridge will be diverted via Bathurst St. Access to the Harbour Tunnel northbound is via the Cross City Tunnel only.
• Cahill Expressway lanes 7 and 8 and Circular Quay Overpass closed 3am to 11.30am
• Sydney CBD, Circular Quay closures from 4am to 11.30am (Macquarie St closed until 4pm)
• Millers Point, King St Wharf, Barangaroo and The Rocks closures between 4am and 11am
• Pyrmont and Ultimo closures between 4am and 10.30am
• Sydney CBD east including Macquarie St and The Domain closures between 4am and 4pm (Park St closed 5am to 3pm)
• Sydney CBD, Darlinghurst to Moore Park closures including Oxford St from 4am to 3.30pm and Flinders St until 3pm
• Moore Park and Centennial Park closures from 5am to 3pm including parts of Moore Park Rd, Lang Rd and Anzac Pde
• South East, Moore Park to Kingsford closures from 5am to 1.30pm including parts of Anzac Pde, Dacey Ave and Alison Rd - delays are expected in the Eastern Distributor while these closures are in place.

Detours:

Motorists will only be able to travel east/west across the course via the Cross City Tunnel which will be toll-free from 5am to 4.30pm or on surface roads via Gardeners Rd, Bunnerong Rd and Maroubra Rd in the South East. From 1pm motorists can also use Dacey Ave/Alison Rd to travel east or west across the course. The Eastern Distributor Anzac Pde entry and exit will be closed, however the Bondi Moore Park Rd exit will remain open this year.

Widespread special event clearway parking restrictions will also be in effect along and surrounding the course. Motorists and residents should check signs carefully on the day and on Saturday night as clearways come into effect from 12.01am Sunday morning. Some clearways in local areas will be in effect from 6am Saturday.

Local roads around the stadium may close ahead of match start including Jubilee Ave, Park St and English St. Roads will re-open once crowds have cleared the area.

Road closures may be in place on Captain Cook Dr from approximately 10 minutes before kick-off and remain in place until crowds have cleared around 30 minutes after full-time.

Traffic on roads approaching the stadium will be heavier than usual as fans travel to and from the match. Allow extra travel time on Captain Cook Dr, Woolooware Rd and Gannons Rd.

Around 40,000 people are expected to attend the annual Festival of the Winds at Bondi Beach from 11am to 4pm. Changed traffic conditions are in place at Bondi Beach and Bondi Junction.

Traffic will be very heavy on approaches to Bondi including Bondi Rd, Syd Einfeld Dr, Old South Head Rd and Military Rd as well as local roads around Bondi Beach. Motorists are advised to avoid non-essential travel or allow plenty of extra travel time. Some rounds around Bondi Junction Interchange will be closed between 10am and 4pm.

Thousands of cyclists will take part in either the 50km or the 10km ride for Spring Cycle from North Sydney to Olympic Park via Pyrmont. Road closures will be in place along the first 10km to Pyrmont, from there cyclists will continue on to Olympic Park sharing roads with motorists and abiding by general road rules.

ROAD CLOSURES - 4AM TO 11:30AM:

- Cahill Expressway Lanes 7 & 8 and Circular Quay Overpass and Sydney Harbour Bridge Lanes 3 and 6: two lanes on the Harbour Bridge remain open in each direction under a reduced 40km/h speed limit. 

- North Sydney: Miller St from Falcon St to Pacific Hwy , Berry St from Pacific Hwy to Walker St, sections of Arthur St, Carlow St, Blue St and surrounding local roads including the High St bridge on-ramp.

- Sydney CBD: Hickson Rd / Sussex St from Towns Place to King St and sections of Argyle St, Dalgety Rd and Upper Fort St.

- Western Distributor from Pyrmont to the City including Pyrmont on-ramp, Fig St on-ramp and King St off- ramp. Citybound motorists from the Anzac Bridge will be diverted via the Bathurst St off-ramp to re-join the Harbour Bridge or access City North via Harbour St or Kent St.

- Pyrmont: Pyrmont St, Pyrmont Bridge Rd, Union St, Murray St and surrounding local roads. Pirrrama Rd remains closed until 11.30am.

Some closures will be in place around Sydney Olympic Park between 7:30am and 3pm including sections of Hill Rd, Edwin Flack Ave and Olympic Blvd.

Special event clearways will be in place on roads along sections of the course in North Sydney, Millers Point and Pyrmont between 3am and 11am and in Five Dock/Concord between 5am and 11am.

If you have to drive, carpool with your group pre-book your parking online ahead of time to secure a space – available until 11:59pm the night before the event unless sold out prior. If you have pre-booked your parking, follow the directions of staff and have your parking ticket ready to show at the car park entry.

Traffic will be heavy on roads approaching and within Parramatta as fans travel to the match. Allow extra travel time on Parramatta Rd, Church St, Victoria Rd, James Ruse Dr and Pennant Hills Rd.

Motorists should also exercise caution as pedestrian activity will be high on roads between Parramatta Interchange and the stadium.

Roads around the stadium will close from approximately 5.50pm until 6.20pm to allow crowds to safely leave the venue. Roads will re-open once crowds have cleared the area.

For passenger drop-off, use the allocated 10-minute loading zone in the McDonald Jones Stadium car park. Entry is via the driveway off Turton Road.

• No through-traffic will be available on Driver Ave, however access to EP2 Kippax car park will be maintained via Moore Park Rd and access to EP3 grass car park and drop-off areas will be maintained from Lang Rd. Grass car parks open from 5pm. 
• Special event clearways will be in place on roads in Moore Park and surrounding areas from 3pm to midnight on sections of Albion Street and Moore Park Road, and from 6am to midnight on sections of Fitzroy Street and Cleveland Street.

Clearways are strict no-parking zones for all vehicle types, and apply even to local residents and TfNSW Mobility Scheme Permit holders. Check signs carefully as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies. If your vehicle is towed, you can search your vehicle registration at the Find My Car website to find its new location, or alternatively call 132 701 to speak to an operator.

B-doubles and vehicles over 4.6m can use Gardeners Rd, O'Riordan St, Botany Rd, Henderson Rd, Wyndham St, Gibbons St, Regent St, Cleveland St, City Rd (Princes Hwy) and Parramatta Rd to M4 Mwy, or Broadway, Wattle St, Pyrmont Bridge Rd and Western Dist for access to City West Link or Victoria Rd.
